More about the first day

Oh what a difference a day makes. On our way to the orphanage yesterday to pick up Matthew we were constantly scanning the horizons taking in all of the scenary. There is so much to see! The city is fun, and let me tell you, the driving here is not for the weak! As in many countries driving rules are "more like guidelines anyway" and the lines on the road (if there are any) are blurred. A trip in the car here is always chaotic and adventurous. Thankfully neither of us have any motion sickness issues. Our adoption agency has secured very good drivers; I'm impressed at what they can do in even the most jammed up situations. The trip through the country from Bishkek to Tokmok was amazingly beautiful. I wish I could show you pictures of the beauty of Kyrgyzstan, but our windows were so tinted that none of them would've come out. (We did shoot some video ... and you WILL need dramamine to watch it, I'm sure.) We passed shepherds with their flocks, grazing livestock, beauiful streams so blue that you know they have to be coming straight from a mountaintop. The mountains are snow capped and majestic. As excited as we were to get to Matthew, I wish we could've stopped that car just a time or two to take some photos. The whole way there our eyes were glued to what was outside the car, but the whole way back to Bishkek, all that seemed to matter was inside the car. It was hotter than hot, and the heat in combination with an amazingly huge lunch he downed for his last meal at the orphanage put Matthew right to sleep. All the workers were sad to see Matthew leave, and we are sure he was well taken care of!

First nap

First walk

At at the end of a long and very interesting day for our little guy, he sacked out next to our bed and slept from 10:45pm to 7:30am! Woohoo! Three cheers for solid night time sleeping!
